Japan Scholarship Association (JSA) is an independent nonprofit organization that works to support and promote international education in Japan by providing information about scholarships and other opportunities available in Japan.

1-The Japan Scholarship for International Students (JSIS)

JSIS is a scholarship program run by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan. It offers scholarships to international students from around the world who wish to study at Japanese universities and colleges.The JSIS provides financial support for study-abroad programs as well as for students to participate in Japanese language training programs. In addition to academic support, the JSIS also provides a number of cultural activities such as visits to famous historical sites or special lectures from experts in their fields.

The Japan Foundation Scholarship Program offers scholarships worth up to $15,000 per year to international students who are interested in pursuing a postgraduate studies at a Japanese university. The program includes five different categories which include: research, exchange, Japanese language education or studies abroad programs. Applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate or graduate students at a recognized institution of higher education in Japan. Also, applicants must have good academic records and demonstrate outstanding leadership skills.

2-The National Foundation for the Arts and Humanities (NFAAH)

(NFAAH) is an organization that provides funding for both Japanese and overseas artists in music and visual art. The organization also provides assistance with legal matters relating to copyright issues related to their works.

3-Nihon University Scholarship

The Nihon University Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree in any field of study at Nihon University. The scholarship is open to applicants from all countries and it can be applied for in multiple categories including excellent academic performance, high school grade point average (GPA), extracurricular activities and community service, etc.

4-Honjo International scholarship program

The Honjo International Scholarship Program is a scholarship program for foreign students who are interested in studying in Japan. It is administered by the Japan Foundation and it offers scholarships to students who have excellent academic records and are interested in pursuing their studies in Japan. The scholarships are offered in various fields of study, including science and technology, economics, humanities and social sciences, medicine and health care etc

The Honjo International scholarship program provides a full range of academic and social benefits to highly qualified international students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree at a Japanese university. The scholarship covers tuition fees and living expenses for up to three years.Candidates must have successfully completed secondary school, have at least one year of college-level Japanese language proficiency and be able to demonstrate financial need.

The application deadline is March 1, 2023.

5-Japan Africa Dream scholarship program

The Japan Africa Dream scholarship program is a unique opportunity to study in Japan. The program aims to provide scholarships to students who have already completed their first year of studies at university and have chosen to study in Japan. Applicants must have been accepted into one of the following universities:

University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Osaka University and Tohoku University.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be an African citizen or permanent resident of an African country. You can apply for the scholarship if you are an African citizen or permanent resident of an African country and if your parents or grandparents were born in Africa. You must also be enrolled full-time in any one of these universities as a first-year undergraduate student or graduate student by November 1st of each year.

6-JASSO Scholarship for international students

JASSO Scholarship is a Japanese scholarship which provides financial support to international students who are studying in Japan. The scholarship program will award up to 10 students at each of three levels: one-year Master’s degree program, two-year Master’s degree program or three-year Doctoral degree program.

8-Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarship Program

The Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarship Program is an international educational program to improve the standard of living, enhance social and economic development, and promote the creation of new jobs in Asia. The program assists students from developing countries to pursue their post-secondary education in Japan.

  • The objective of the Program is to provide scholarships for students from developing countries to further their education at accredited universities in Japan. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, room and board expenses, and a grant for living expenses during the period of study.
  • Applicants must be nationals of eligible countries who are enrolled at a university or college located in one of the following countries: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China (mainland), Indonesia, Lao PDR/Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar/Burma (Myanmar), Nepal, New Zealand (except Niue), Pakistan, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka* and Thailand*; or studying there on exchange programs approved by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • The application period opens every year on 1st October and closes 31st March the following year.

9-Mitsubishi Corporation International Scholarships

Mitsubishi Corporation International Scholarships are available to international students who wish to study in Japan. The scholarships are offered by Mitsubishi Corporation and they aim to provide a good foundation for those seeking employment in the country. The scholarships are open to all international students who have completed their undergraduate degree and have earned a minimum of a Master’s degree.

The scholarship covers tuition fees and living expenses, but not travel or other costs incurred during their stay in Japan. The scholarship also does not cover additional costs such as textbooks or materials required for learning Japanese or other language skills required for work in Japan. However, there is an allowance for living expenses such as accommodation, food and transportation within the country.

The award amounts vary from year to year. Currently, it ranges from ¥3 million (AU$40,000) to ¥5 million (AU$65,000). However, these figures may increase depending on the performance of the recipient’s company during the previous financial year.

10-Yokohama National University Scholarship
